The Ethel S. Abbott Charitable Foundation

Introduction

Ethel S. Abbott lived in Lincoln, Omaha and Hyannis, Nebraska. When she created the charitable foundation, which bears her name in 1972, she requested that the Board of Trustees make grants that benefit the Lincoln, Omaha and Western Nebraska areas. As a result, the Board of Trustees has decided that our primary grant areas will be; Lincoln, Nebraska and the surrounding 50 mile radius, Omaha, Nebraska and the surrounding 50 mile radius up to the Missouri River and Western, Nebraska, which is defined as all parts of the state in the Mountain Time Zone. Occasionally, there will be an exception made to the primary grant area, due mainly to Ethel S. Abbott's history of giving while living.

General Grant Guidelines

The completed Grant Application Form should be returned to the Foundation's office with all the required attachments. If you have any questions about the Grant Application Form after reviewing the Grant Application Form Instructions, please use the Contact Us section of the website to submit your questions.

It is possible that the Board of Trustees after reviewing your grant request would seek additional information from your organization. If the additional information is not received within 90 days of the date of the request, your grant application will be removed from our pending grant list. All items submitted with the Grant Application Form will not be returned.

The Board of Trustees will generally consider grant requests for capital projects and endowment projects more favorably than grant requests for operating funds. However, the Board of Trustees will occasionally make an operating grant for the start up of a new 501(c)(3) or a program which will become self-sustaining after the start up period. We evaluate each grant request on its merits and support projects which reflect well on the sponsoring organization, our foundation and our state. By law, The Ethel S. Abbott Charitable Foundation can only make grants to 501(c)(3) organizations.
